Turner Prize Nominee Comes To Chichester's Pallant House Gallery

By Tara Booth

Turner prize nominated artist Goshka Macuga has loaned two works to Chichester’s Pallant House Gallery to coincide with Eileen Agar: An Eye for Collage, the current exhibition of works by Surrealist artist Eileen Agar.

Objects in Relation, Goshka Macuga’s installation currently at Tate Britain, was made in response to the 1930s artist group Unit One and its founders Paul Nash and artist Eileen Agar who had a love affair during the 1930s and 1940s.

Studies 5 and 6 were made by Macuga using found vintage images, stylistically recalling the work of Agar and Nash.

“Macuga blurs the boundaries between collector, curator and artist,” explained Objects in Relation curator at Tate Britain, Rachel Tant.

“Her medium is her method of selection; her exhibitions become exhibits in themselves. By re-contextualising material, Macuga disrupts conventional reading and suggests new possibilities and alternative narratives.”

Studies 5 and 6 (2007) by Goshka Macuga will be on show in Chichester for the duration of the exhibition Eileen Agar: An Eye for Collage, until March 15 2009.
