SCHOOLS AND AFTER SCHOOL GROUPS AND CITY HERITAGE GUIDES
19/05/2004

Every City Guide will have a dedicated ‘By Kids for Kids’ section where we will be featuring work produced by local children.

To do this we need to foster links with local schools and after school clubs. If you are a teacher or an after school leader, we may be able to help you digitise your activities and give any heritage related project you might be involved in a real lift.

So what kind of material are we looking for? Did you lead a group visit to a great museum? Get the kids to draw pictures and record their impressions of their visit. You can then have them published on the City Heritage Guide.

Why not put together a trail by the kids about their favourite museums in your city, illustrated with their own pictures?

How do we go about doing this? We can give you access to our specially designed authoring tool called Storymaker.

Storymaker is a free and easy to use piece of editing software. Easy to download and use it’s password protected and allows you to develop ideas and projects with your group or class. You can save your work for later and work on it over a period of time if you wish.

Once you are set up with a password you only be a short step away from adding pictures and text that will be published on the city guide.

So how easy is it? Using Storymaker is really easy you can easily use Storymaker in an IT suite or with an interactive whiteboard - it’s a simple way of engaging your class or group with a project.

We have workshop plans that may help you develop school and after school club based projects that engage with your local heritage. Please contact us for more information.

If you would like to discuss it with the 24 Hour Museum editorial team please contact us: cityheritage@24hourmuseum.org.uk or on 01273 820044.
