INFORMATION ABOUT OUR NEWSFEED SERVICE
26/09/2003
shows 24 Hour Museum homepage with a news story

Image: there are thousands of newsfeeds (on all kinds of subjects!) available on the web - just type 'newsfeed' into Google and see what comes out.

The 24 Hour Museum website has developed a free newsfeed service to spread the word about UK museums, galleries and heritage attractions even further round the world wide web.

Using XML technology widely used in the web sector, the new 24 Hour Museum service offers at least two museum and gallery stories every day. The stories come straight from the pages of the website and they are available copyright-free for partner websites to link to.

The newsfeed service is at: www.24hourmuseum.org.uk/home.rss

Note - that web address is NOT a hyperlink. If you type that URL into a browser you will not get a feed of our stories.

To read the feed, you need (if I can be permitted a brief and heady moment of poetic alliteration) to download a feedreader, into which you type that url above. Then news stories from our site will appear on in your feedreader window on your computer desktop.

Here's a url for one common program: sourceforge.net/project/shownotes.php?release_id=154978 and here's a website about newsfeeds and readers: www.feedreader.com/index.php

If you run a website, and you want to use our newsfeed as content on your homepage, you can engineer the feed address into a webpage, which will make a box pop-up with lots of lovely live news links on - see the image below.

Image: Jonathan Bowen's excellent Museophile website has put up a trial version of the 24 HM newsfeed - this is what it will look like on a partner website, though your technical wizards can change it's appearance if you like.

shows a page from Jonathan Bowen's excellent Museophile site, where he's put up our newsfeed.

Click here (opens new window) onto the excellent Museophile website to see what the 24 Hour Museum newsfeed looks like when it's not living on our site!

Here's what the feed looks like as a live newsfeed box on our site.

If you would like to consider linking to the newsfeed click here to contact Jon Pratty for details.

It would be very much appreciated if you could display a 24 Hour Museum logo if your webmaster uses our newsfeed.
