SHOW.ME.UK

First stop for: online museum and gallery interactives for children aged 4 to 11.

www.show.me.uk is the 24 Hour Museum’s zone for kids. Designed for children aged 4 to 11, or KS1 and 2 in the English National Curriculum, the site is packed with online interactive resources produced by museums and galleries.

There are sections for teachers and parents, weekly news stories, ideas and tips on extending children’s interest in their heritage, an interactive UK museums map for kids and lots more.

CURRICULUM NAVIGATOR

First stop for: details of offline teacher packs, workshops and support materials produced by museums and galleries, across all key stages.

The Curriculum Navigator is a search engine which draws on resources within the main 24 Hour Museum database. Funded by the DFES and continually updated by museums and galleries themselves, the Navigator details teachers' packs, web pages, workshops, fact sheets, gallery tours and lots more.

If you are planning a class trip as a focus for a particular subject, the navigator will let you know what the museums and galleries in your area have to offer.

MUSEUM IN A CLASSROOM

How can you start your own museum? Where does all the old stuff you see in museums come from? What can be done in the classroom to make museums and galleries come alive?

Answers to at least some of these questions can be found in our downloadable teachers pack - 'The Museum in a Classroom'. The pack details how to structure and manage a cross-curricular project, which can be linked into the National Curriculum through most subjects and at most level.

The downloads come as pdf files: you'll need Adobe Acrobat to read them. This is a simple free program that is widely available on computer magazine discs and off the web.
