System Simulation Ltd developed and maintains the core software infrastructure systems for the 24 Hour Museum, including Show Me and the City Heritage Guides, using Index+ software (© System Simulation Ltd). SSL work closely with Culture24 to integrate new designs and to provide new functionality and facilities as required.

The main components of the systems include:

Repository Management System, storing, retrieving and managing all content including text, digital images and other media and capable of sustaining the growth of the project throughout its life;

Content Development System enabling the Editor to create, edit and manage all content (text, images and other media) and to publish new content to each of the websites as required on a regular basis;

Websites and portal delivering dynamically generated pages, configured and implemented to the 24 Hour Museum's own specification. Designs for the 24 Hour Museum home site, for ShowMe the childrens’ site and for the City Guides site;

Innovative facilities include Storymaker, the online authoring tool for City Guides, enabling individuals and groups to write and submit stories and trails with images for inclusion on the site; DDE, the Direct Data Entry form, enabling each museum to input and then amend and maintain its own entry; and XML newsfeeds allowing museums to add timely news stories to their own websites. All sites are able to be enhanced with new content, redesigns, functionality and facilities at any time.
