John Newbigin Chairman of the Trustees, Culture24

John, a strategic consultant for the cultural industries, was formerly Head of Corporate Relations at Channel 4 Television and a special advisor to Chris Smith MP when he was Secretary of State for Culture.

He joined Channel 4 in January 2000 and previous jobs also include working for David Puttnam’s film company Enigma (1992-97) and as a Policy Advisor to Neil Kinnock (1986-92).

Jon Drori trustee

Jonathan Drori is Director of Changing Media Ltd, a consulting group, where he advises Government and other public bodies. He is Visiting Professor at Bristol University, specialising in technology for learning. Previously Jon has been Director of Culture Online at the DCMS, Head of Commissioning for BBC Online and Head of Digital Media and Learning Channels for BBC Education. As a BBC Executive Producer and Director, he was responsible for many television series in science, education and the arts.

Lydia Howland trustee

Lydia Howland is a Human Factors Designer at IDEO, a global design consultancy that helps companies innovate through products, services, environments and experiences. Working within multidisciplinary teams, Lydia uses empathic ethnographical techniques to bring a user-centred perspective to IDEO's research. Her publications include: Logged Off? How ICT can connect young people and politics (Demos 2002); Kit for Purpose: Design to deliver creative learning (Design Council 2002); Foodstuff: Living in an age of Feast and Famine (ed.) (Demos 2002).

Rowena Loverance trustee

Rowena Loverance is a freelance writer and e-learning consultant. Previously head of e-learning at The British Museum, she has been involved in digital media since the early 1990s, when she made the museum’s very first CD-ROM, and she created the museum’s extensive series of children’s websites on the ancient world, www.ancientcivilizations.co.uk. She currently writes for the National Museums Online Learning Project. Apart from the day job, she is a specialist in Byzantine sculpture, and she has written several books on the relationship between religion and the visual arts.

Vijay Solanki trustee

Vijay is currently European Marketing Services Director within part of bp. His remit includes marketing communications, digital marketing and market knowledge across 44 countries.

Vijay's history encompasses a variety of roles including marketing director at lastminute.com; Capital Radio, IPC magazines and a mobile music start up called Shazam. He started his marketing career with Unilever.

Tom O'Leary trustee

Tom O'Leary is currently Head of the Parliamentary Education Service where he leads an expanding programme to engage young people with the work of Parliament. Before this Tom worked at The National Archives for 10 years in a number of roles, starting as an Education Officer in 1998. Most recently he was Head of Online Services and Education, overseeing the web site, education, digitisation, outreach and museum functions. During his time at the archives he built up the education visit programme and led the development of the award winning education website The Learning Curve. Prior to joining The National Archives, Tom taught history to 11 to 18 year olds in the state sector for five years. Tom has degree in History and a Post Graduate Certificate of Education.

Ylva French trustee

Ylva French is Executive Director of The Campaign for Museums, a registered charity, which organises the annual Museums and Galleries Month; and originally founded the 24 Hour Museum. By profession Ylva is a marketing and PR consultant with wide ranging experience in tourism, arts and museums. Ylva is also a Trustee of The Art Fund Museum Prize and a Member of the Royal Parks Advisory Board.

Adam Gee trustee

Adam is New Media Commissioner, Factual at Channel 4 and was formerly Creative/Commercial Director of 4Learning. Before joining Channel 4 he was Head of Production at pioneering broadband production company Redbus CPD.

His productions have won over 40 international awards including a BAFTA, an RTS and the Grand Award at the New York International Film & TV Festival. Adam has served on the Interactive and Television Committees of BAFTA, and is a voting member of the European Film Academy.

Vivienne Reiss trustee

Vivienne is an arts consultant who devises and manages cultural programmes and is involved in research into artist–led learning and participatory initiatives.

Vivienne was formerly Head of Visual Arts Learning and Development at the Arts Council where she was responsible for developing a national visual arts and media education strategy. Her previous work includes running an inner city-based community arts project and working as a gallery curator.

Culture24's board meetings are also attended by observers from MLA (Museums, Libraries and Archives Council), DCMS and Arts Council England.
