Exhibition Preview - Lost and Found: Derby at Derby Museum and Art Gallery until June 14 2008.

Artist Paul Matosic is reproducing a map of part of Derby city centre on the gallery floor in an installation of found objects and items from the museum archaeology collection at Derby Museum and Art Gallery.

The Nottingham-based artist focuses on cityscapes and is covering Derby’s street patterns with a collection of discarded, lost and found objects he has collected from Derby’s streets. This installation is designed to raise thoughts about waste, consumerism and the value of objects.

Paul has shown similar work at galleries in Nottingham and Barnsley and wanted to develop his theme further by using historical objects. The installation has therefore been supplemented by archaeological material from the Museums’ collection, taken from local archaeological digs.

The intention is to show the relationship between contemporary and historical objects and provoke thoughts about the transient nature of objects.

Visitors can watch Paul installing the exhibition until the end of Friday (5pm) March 28.

This is an exhibition preview. If you’ve been to see the show, why not let us know?
