Description
Beverley Art Gallery is located in the heart of Beverley in the East Riding of Yorkshire. It is a fine example of a purpose built Edwardian Art Gallery and the only arts heritage facility of its type in the East Yorkshire region.
The Beverley Art Gallery opened to the public in 1910. The objectives of the Gallery were ‘to illustrate the history of the locality and to foster, by means of the art section, the love of the beautiful and the appreciation of fine arts’. Since its inception, the Gallery has worked tirelessly to provide exhibitions and activities that have inspired and engaged with the local community in the arts.
The Gallery holds the largest collection of works by the celebrated early 20th Century artist, Frederick Elwell; and a renown series of Victorian / Edwardian paintings "The Champney Bequest", and other historic artworks relevant to the area of the East Riding of Yorkshire.
The Beverley Art Gallery develops a temporary exhibition programme from national and regional touring shows, and themed exhibitions curated in-house. In addition education workshops (and assorted activities) are implemented regularly that compliment the temporary exhibition programme.
The Beverley Art Gallery is dedicated in its support for artists living and working in the East Riding of Yorkshire area.
