Description
Lively new galleries tell the story of London's transport system and how it shaped the lives of people living and working in London. The Design for Travel gallery showcases original artworks and advertising posters. The Museum also features vehicles from the past, present and future including the iconic Routemaster bus and the world's first Underground steam train.

The entire collection of this museum is a Designated Collection of national importance.
Collections description
This museum's wide-ranging collections, including vehicles, posters, uniforms, photographs, film, architectural fragments, engineering drawings and oral testimonies are all Designated Collections of national importance. The wealth of material is used to great effect to chart the development of the first public transport system in a major city.

Of special significance amongst the vehicle collection is a locomotive and carriage from the City and South London Railway of 1890, the first underground electric railway in the world. The reserve collections are now accessible to the public at the Depot, the Museum's open-access store, whilst more information about the collections continues to be made available through the Museum's website and electronic databases.
