Open
The museum is open every Fri, Sat, Sun and Bank Holiday from Easter Sunday (other times and days by arrangement for group visits) 10:00 - 17:00 until end October. Also open every Wednesday in August from 14:00 - 20:00.
Engines run most days the museum is open (please check if travelling long distances) with several engines running the second Sunday of every month throughout the season.
Enthusiasts will be on hand to answer your questions and to tell you the history behind each of the engines.

Description
Unusual and fascinating museum which has over the past few years received awards for its exhibits, its exhibitions, its website and for the quality of its volunteers.
On the site of the old Anson Colliery in Poynton, it’s the result of Les Cawley and Geoff Challinor's years of hard work collecting and restoring engines. Opened to the public in 1989, the museum is open from Easter Sunday until end October (other times and days by arrangement for group visits).
Engines run most days the museum is open (please check if travelling long distances) with several engines running the second Sunday of every month throughout the season.
As well as the largest collection of gas and oil engines in Europe, the museum also has an varying display of local history items such as photographs, maps, mementoes and keepsakes from the Vernon Estate and Anson Colliery.

Collections description
The main building houses a large collection of engines, maintained in running order ranging from early Crossley gas engines through to more modern diesels. Other buildings house specialist collections such as Gardner engines, Atmospheric engines, etc. The collection of over 200 engines covering the development of the internal combustion engine with examples of major developments.
The following are some of the prize exhibits on display:-
• Largest running example of Crossley Atmospheric gas engine
• Award Winning, original Gardner L series engine along with its EHHS plaque
• 200 engines varying in size from desktop to 63 tons!
• Unique collection of photographs, sales leaflets & slides from engine manufacturers
• Free film and video shows on engine development shown throughout summer
Additionally, the museum boasts an enviable collection of local history items from the Vernon estate and the local collieries.
