Admission by timed ticket and guided tour only, to avoid overcrowding and to preserve the fragile contents. No photography allowed inside property. Advance bookings recommended. Tickets on the day subject to availability.

Description
Georgian terraced house - the former studio and home of the photographer E. Chambre Hardman. Unique time capsule of Liverpool life in the mid 20th century. Small exhibition space devoted to a selection of Hardman's work. Discover Hardman's amazing techniques for photographing people and landscapes and hear him talk about his work on film. New for 2005 is a virtual tour of the property including the upstairs with audio commentary that allows visitors to view each room. Please advise us at time of booking if you wish to make use of this facility when you visit.

Collections description
As well as a selection of Hardman'ss collection of photographs - over 142,000 images – the house includes the studio where most were taken, the darkroom where they were developed and printed, the business records and the rooms where the photographer, Edward Chambre Hardman, and his wife Margaret lived from 1948 to 1988, complete with all their contents and ephemera of daily life.
The subject matter of the photographs – portraits of the people in Liverpool, their city and the landscapes of the surrounding countryside – provide a record of a more prosperous time when Liverpool was the gateway to the British Empire and the world. Parallel to this is the quality of Hardman’s work and his standing as both a pictorial and portrait photographer
