Description
Rutland County Museum is the perfect introduction to England's smallest county. The new Welcome to Rutland gallery is a guide to the history of Rutland and leads into displays of local archaeology, history and an extensive rural life collection. The site itself is also remarkable as the Museum is set in the old riding school of the Rutland Fencible Cavalry.
Collections description
The Museum has an extensive rural life collection, including tractors, farm equipment and waggons on display in the Riding School and in the adjoining Courtyard, where can be found the game larder of Lord Lonsdale, one of the famous Rutland characters whose stories can be found here.

The collections include a wide range of rural tradesmen's tools, domestic and social history material, Rutland's standard weights and measures, and local archaeology.

Key artists and exhibits
One special exhibit is the early 13th century Limoges enamel reliquary from Rutland's only priory at Brooke, found in 1805 and acquired for the museum in 1997 with grant aid from the National Art Collections Fund, the V&A/MGC Purchase Grant Fund, and the museum's Friends. ; The jewel of our tractor collection is a 1916 Saunderson Model G, purchased with the assistance of the Friends and the Science Museum.
