Description
The Lighthouse was opened by HM Queen Elizabeth in July 1999 after a £13 million ($20 million) conversion, which transformed Charles Rennie Mackintosh's derelict 1895 Glasgow Herald newspaper office into Scotland's first, dedicated, national centre for architecture and design.

The centre’s vision is to be “a leading body for the promotion of architecture, design and the creative industries, locally, nationally and internationally by engaging people of all ages through a creative exhibition, education and business programme."

Through our exhibition programme we aim to deepen understanding of architecture and design by stimulating interest and encouraging debate. We also aspire to nurture and support the professional development of architects and designers in Scotland and beyond to create a culture of learning and professionalism that encourages excellence and critical thinking, practice and productivity.

The Lighthouse also contains a Charles Rennie Mackintosh Interpretation Centre and a dedicated education floor. There is also a conference centre, shop and the café/bar The doocot. We also run conferences and events including a Creative Entrepreneurs Club, the largest networking club for the creative industries in Scotland, with over 2,600 members.
