Description
The Hayward, a purpose-built, modern art gallery, was opened by Her Majesty The Queen in 1968. It is considered an icon of sixties ‘brutalist’ architecture. The Gallery plays a vital role in the visual arts in the UK and internationally. As one of the largest and most versatile temporary art exhibition spaces in Britain, it has proved remarkably adaptable in presenting a wide range of ground-breaking exhibitions for 40 years.
