Description
The Geological Collections are a repository for research material of palaeontological, mineralogical and lithological nature. Numbering around 32,000 specimens, worldwide in scope. Fossil corals and bryozoa are a particular strength of the collection. Another significant holding is Triassic reptile material from fissure fillings in Carboniferous Limestone in the Avon area of England. The rock collection is worldwide in origin, but its particular strength lies in its speciments from northern Scotland. This collection is of increasing value in that many localities are no longer available for collecting and it is believed that the University is the only source of certain material.
