Discover gifts and souvenirs to suit all ages and pockets! From die-cast planes to hand-painted figurines, war related items from replica ration cards to regimental badges. There is also a wide selection of books, videos and music CDs that reflect the military history in Scotland.

A courtesy vehicle for visitors with mobility difficulties runs from Edinburgh Castle's ticket kiosks. The museum is fully accessible with a level entrance, lift and adapted toilets. There are supertitls and an induction loop in the cinema. There is also a summary of displays in the Castle audio-tour. Recognised assistance dogs are admitted.

Here, in the magnificent setting of Edinburgh Castle, explore over 400 years of the Scottish military experience. Uncover stories of courage and determination, victory and defeat, heroics and heartbreak.
This is the story of the regular Scot, the human aspect of war, told through personal letters and mementoes as much as military equipment.

Collections description
Scotland's military history is presented in galleries housed in mid-18th century buildings at Edinburgh Castle. Each of the six newly-refurbished galleries focuses on a separate theme. A Nation in Arms takes a wide view of the influence of strategy and military service on the history of Scotland during the last four centuries. A Grand Life for a Scotsman explores the individual's experience of military life from recruitment to retirement. Tools of the Trade moves our attention from the individual to the weapons, equipment and clothing developed to meet the demands of war and military service in all its forms. The Highland Soldier tells the story of this unique figure in military history and its impact on Scottish national identity. In Defence highlights the demands of military service on the civilian population in home defence and total war. Active Service explores aspects of battle through the personal experience of Scots.
