Description
Welcome to The Ropewalk, where you will find a wide range of contemporary art and craft, including one of the most comprehensive collections of contemporary ceramics in the region. The Ropewalk is host to a number of activities and events throughout the year. The Ropewalk is situated slightly to the east of the Humber Bridge, on the southern bank of the River Humber. Stretching out towards the bank, at almost a quarter of a mile long, The Ropewalk was initially part of a rope making factory; opening in 1767, the factory eventually closed in 1986. The Waterside Artists' Cooperative was formed in 1998 and, with partners The Proudfoot Group and North Lincolnshire Council, redeveloped the most southern 167ft of the Grade II Listed Ropewalk building into a contemporary Arts Centre and Heritage Display, which opened for business in April 2000. In addition to two galleries, the building also houses four artists' studios and a bespoke picture framing service, as well as a number of facilities available for use by the general public, including a sculpture garden, meeting rooms and a printmaking studio.
