Description
Scalloway was once the capital of Shetland but in later years has been a prosperous fishing port. Fishing features in the museum, yet the unique story concerns “The Shetland Bus”. In the Second World War there was a renewal of old contacts with Norway, and a small fleet of fishing boats ran a shuttle service taking refugees out and taking arms and freedom fighters in - the 'Shetland Bus Operation'. The Scalloway Museum tells the part Shetland played in WW2 through photographs, artefacts and interpretive panels.
