Description
Gloucestershire Archives aims to preserve historical records relating to Gloucestershire, and to make them available for research.

Gloucestershire Archives holds over 8 million documents dating from the 12th century to the present day and reflecting all aspects of life in Gloucestershire.
Collections description
Gloucestershire Archives holds several major collections that shed light on important areas of national and international history.

Key artists and exhibits
Granville Sharp Papers – abolition of the slave trade ; Ivor Gurney Collection - renowned First World War poet and composer ; Sir George Onesiphorous Paul - leading role in late 18th century prison reform ; John Bellows Archive - the international Quaker community in the 19th and early 20th centuries ; Estcourt Archive - eye-witness accounts of the Crimean War ; Hicks-Beach Papers - diplomatic, economic and political history in the Victorian period ; Gloucester Diocesan Archive - the impact of the English Reformation ; Smyth of Nibley Archive - 17th and 18th century life in England ; Cyril Hart Collection - industrial heritage and traditions of the Forest of Dean ; Stroudwater Canal Archive - the oldest surviving canal company in the world
