Description
National Museums Liverpool's award-winning Conservation Centre is the first national conservation centre in the UK, and the only one of its kind open to the public. Housed in the former Midland Railway Goods Depot (built in the 1870s) on Queen Square in the heart of Liverpool, the centre was opened by HRH The Prince of Wales in 1996.
Collections description
The exhibition shows how conservators uncover the secrets within objects and how they keep the ravages of time at bay. Discover how our world class conservators preserve and restore everything from fine art and sculpture to space suits and ancient archaeological treasures, meet a conservator at work via a live video link, take part in a hands-on activity or a behind-the-scenes tour, get an expert's opinion on looking after your heirlooms.

Key artists and exhibits
Mummified Egyptian crocodile, two genuine Beatles gold discs, a rare sixteenth century copy of the Mona Lisa ; Eros and The Spirit of Liverpool, two of Liverpool's most famous statues, rescued from pollution and the natural elements.
