Description
Bede's World celebrates the extraordinary life and achievements of the Venerable Bede (AD 673 - 735) who lived and worked here in the monastery 1300 years ago.

Visit:
- Interactive permanent exhibition "The Age of Bede" in the stunning new museum building
- Historic site of the Anglo-Saxon monastery of St Paul and medieval monastery ruins
- Rare breeds of animals, recreated Anglo-Saxon timber buildings and ancient varieties of crops and vegetables on Gyrwe, the Anglo-Saxon demonstration farm
- Herb garden, based on Anglo-Saxon and medieval herbs, and laid out partly to a 9th century plan
- Attractive cafe within historic Grade-II listed Jarrow Hall
- Museum gift and bookshop, which stocks an extensive range of translations of Bede's works
- Varied programme of events and temporary exhibitions
Collections description
Collection of the material excavated on the site of St Paul's Monastery between 1963 and 1978 under the direction of Professor Rosemary Cramp. Also a collection of material relating to the history and inhabitants of Jarrow Hall, built in 1785.

Key artists and exhibits
Artefacts from the site of St Paul's monastery, including a large quantity of rare 7th century coloured window glass, including three reconstructed windows containing original glass.
