Description
The Irish Linen Centre and Lisburn Museum houses a major exhibition of the history of Irish Linen, an interactive gallery with hands on participation in linen manufacturing processes; an audio-visual presentation on the lives of workers in a Victorian factory setting and hand loom weavers producing linen on restored 19th century looms.

Collections description
Lisburn and the surrounding Lagan Valley earned an honoured place in the history of the Irish Linen Industry through association with Louis Crommelin, a notable French Huguenot. He was appointed by William III in 1698 to develop the Irish Linen Industry and established a base at Lisburn with skilled Huguenot craftsmen.

The site of the Centre is particularly apt with Lisburn Museum being housed in the former 18th Century Linen Market House. Lisburn Museum has also been re-established as the local museum for the Lagan Valley, featuring exhibitions on the history of the area, drawing on its extensive artefact, archive and book collections. The acquisition by the Museum of the entire library of the former Linen Industry Research Association is a notable addition to its research facilities.
