Description
The museum is sited on the banks of the River Kennet in the centre of Reading. The displays tell the story of the Reading's two rivers - the Kennet and the Thames. The Museum occupies the Screen and Turbine Houses of a former Victorian pumping station.
Also housed in the pumping station buildings is 'The Bel and the Dragon' bar and restaurant. This offers hot and cold drinks as well as freshly prepared food.
Collections description
Objects on display include a spectacular gypsy caravan and a medieval mill wheel. There are waterside views of the town centre and occasional summertime art exhibitions in the Turbine House.
We recommend that you also visit the nearby Museum of Reading, only a ten minute walk via the Abbey Ruins and the beautiful Forbury Gardens.
