Description
Soho House Museum was the home of Matthew Boulton, one of Birmingham's most famous sons. Boulton is famous for his associations with James Watt and the Lunar Society and left his mark on industrial development in Birmingham. The house has been painstakingly restored to its Eighteenth Century glory and reflects Boulton's taste and style. There is also a temporary exhibition gallery and education room on site that has a lively programme of community focussed exhibitions and events.

Collections description
On view inside Soho House is the Dining room where the famous Lunar Society met to discuss their ideas and experiments. Gathered here on the night of a full moon for dinner and lively conversation would be Erasmus Darwin, James Watt, Joseph Priestley and many other key figures from the science and manufacturing worlds of that day. On show is elegant furniture by James Newton, a James Watt copying press, and many Boulton pieces ranging from a stunning solid silver coffee pot to an impressive ormolu table made specifically for the hallway in the house. Uniquely, the house gives visitors glimpses of the unique inventiveness of its owner, such as the remains of a warm air heating system, probably the first in a British home since the Romans.
