Description
Wakefield Museum was completely refurbished and made fully accessible in 2000. Visitors of all ages will enjoy exploring the new, interactive displays which tell the history of Wakefield from prehistoric times to the present day. An unexpected treasure is the exhibition on the South American rainforest, featuring the Charles Waterton collection form the early nineteenth century. Visitors can also see the current temporary exhibition, use the local history resource base and search the digital archive of historic photographs.
Collections description
Charles Waterton collection of exotic species from S. American rainforest. Social history from earliest settlers to 21st Century. Archaeology from the Wakefield District, including artefacts from nearby Sandal Castle.
