Description
Nostell Priory is an 18th century architectural masterpiece set in a landscape park. The house was built by the architect James Paine on the site of a medieval priory for Sir Rowland Winn, 4th Baronet. Later, Robert Adam was commissioned to complete the state rooms which are amongst the finest examples of his interiors.
In the gardens are delightful lakeside walks with a stunning colection of rhododendrons and azaleas in late spring. The historic landscape park, which was acquired with assistance from the Heritage Lottery Fund in 2002, is now open to the public for the first time and is currently undergoing restoration and replanting.

Collections description
The Priory houses one of the best documented collections of Chippendale furniture and furnishings which were designed especially for the house by the great cabinet maker. Other treasures include an outstanding art collection with works by Pieter Brueghel the Younger, Hogarth and Angelica Kauffmann, the remarkable 18th-century doll's house with its original fittings and the John Harrison longcase clock with its rare movement made of wood.
