Description
The Cass Sculpture Foundation seeks to enhance the general public’s enjoyment and appreciation of the strength and quality of twenty-first century British sculpture.

The Cass Sculpture Foundation was established in 1994 as a charitable foundation. The key feature of the Cass Sculpture Foundation is the extent to which it empowers sculptors to take their careers to a new level. This applies to both established and young artists alike.

The Foundation’s commissioning process creates the opportunity for pre-eminent artists to accelerate their already successful careers by enabling them to realise speculative ideas.

The Cass commissioning process often gives younger sculptors their first opportunity to produce work on a monumental scale. This invariably provides the artist with sufficient confidence to seek out and undertake ambitious commissions elsewhere.

Through a vigorous programme of commissioning, funding and marketing, the Foundation has enabled the fabrication of over 120 interesting new works by British artists.

Collections description
Cass Sculpture Foundation displays its commissioned large-scale works at its sculpture estate at Goodwood, West Sussex. The grounds are located in an area of outstanding natural beauty with views to the south coast. The woodland has been sensitively landscaped to show each sculpture to maximum effect with minimum visual interference from neighbouring pieces. Walking around the estate thus becomes a journey of discovery as each work is revealed in its own carefully planned space.

The sculpture estate now comprises around 26 acres and is currently home to over sixty large-scale pieces. Throughout 2005, a specially designated area of the estate has been allocated to an exhibition of important new works by Tony Cragg, on display for a full year.

The grounds also include a small indoor gallery displaying maquettes and mid-size sculptures, while benches, seats, pavilions and other works by young contemporary designers can be found scattered amongst the trees.

Cass Sculpture Foundation commissions between 10-15 new large-scale sculptures each year. By doing so, the Foundation continues to provide support and promotion for contemporary British sculpture as well as a unique aesthetic experience for its many visitors. All sculptures and designs in the park are for sale.

Key artists and exhibits
Recently installed sculpture on display through 2004-5 include large-scale works by Zadok Ben-David, Steven Gregory, Lynn Chadwick, Abigail Fallis, Sean Henry, Tim Morgan and Gavin Turk.
