Description
Rugby Art Gallery and Museum opened in spring 2000 in a purpose built contemporary building. The Art Gallery hosts temporary exhibitions of contemporary visual art and craft, and exhibitions from the Rugby Collection of 20th century and contemporary British Art. The Museum has a permanent display of Roman artifacts and a Socal History Gallery focusing on Rugby people and life. Floor One Gallery is a hireable exhibitions space. Education underpins all the exhibitions and displays including: free activities, handling collections, multi-media kiosk, school holiday workshops, free artist talks and demonstrations, facilities for schools and groups.
Collections description
Rugby Collection of 20th century and contemporary British art including prints and paintings by Stanley Spencer, Bridget Riley, L S Lowry and Lucian Freud.
Tripontium Collection of Roman artifacts from an important Roman settlement near Rugby.
Social History Collection reflecting Rugby's industrial history, impact of war and the changing pattern of family life.
