Description
The National Museum of Scotland – two iconic buildings, one amazing museum. Our collections in the landmark Museum of Scotland building tell you the story of Scotland; its land, its people and culture. What influence has the world had on Scotland, and Scotland on the world? Explore, discover and unearth all the answers right here in the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town.
The £46.4 million Royal Museum project is now underway. This exciting project will transform the Victorian Royal Museum building into an integrated and world-class National Museum of Scotland. The project will be completed in 2011, and public funding from both the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Scottish Government has been secured to realise this ambitious project.
While all of this work is going on, there is still lots to see and do at the National Museum of Scotland!

Collections description
Come and explore the National Museum of Scotland. When did people first settle in Scotland? What are our oldest treasures? Discover some of the nation's most precious possessions alongside the everyday objects that throw light on Scotland through the ages.
The modern landmark building that houses our Scottish collections sits alongside the magnificent Victorian Royal Museum building. Hours can fly by here but the Millennium Clock should keep you right! Move beyond Scotland and explore the world. This part of the museum is home to our international collections of Decorative Arts, Science and Industry, Archaeology and the Natural World. Some exhibits are millions of years old, others less than a decade.
You can take part in lots of activities every day at the Museum. Pick up a Museum Map when you arrive. It tells you what’s on, where and when. Or check our plasma screens for the same information.
