Description
The Ulster American Folk Park tells the story of emigration from Ulster to American in the 18th and 19th centuries. Here you will find fully furnished Old and New World buildings with costumed demonstrators going about their everyday tasks. A Ship and Dockside gallery links the two areas and includes a full size replica of an emigrant ship. "Emigrants" is an indoor exhibition which details the background to the emigration experience.
Collections description
The museum's collection consists of original and replica Ulster and American dwelling houses and shops with original furniture and fittings from the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries. There is a substantial social history collection of domestic, craft and agricultural objects in storage and on display in the exhibit buildings and permanent exhibition, including a small textile collection of Ulster and American patchwork and various miscellaneous costume and linen items.
The Centre for Migration Studies hosts an Irish Emigration Database, which is a computerised collection of primary source documents relating to emigration to North America in the 18th and 19th centuries. It includes emigrant letters, shipping advertisements, passenger lists, emigrant diaries and family papers.
