Description
The world’s first Museum of Garden History is housed in the restored medieval church of St Mary-at-Lambeth, and is situated on the banks of the River Thames. It tells the story of gardens and gardening in Britain from the earliest times to the present.

Often described by visitors as ‘an oasis in the middle of a busy city’, the Museum’s garden, a 17th Century style knot garden designed by the Marchioness of Salisbury, allows visitors to enjoy plants that can be traced back to that period.

Also in the grounds are the tombs of the John Tradescants, gardeners to Charles I and II and enthusiastic collectors and adventurous plant hunters, as well as Captain Bligh of the Bounty.

After a trip through thousands of years of garden history, visitors can enjoy home-cooked food in the Garden Café and browse for garden related gifts and books in the Gift Shop.

The Museum also provides a unique venue for corporate and private entertaining. Past events have included presentation evenings, breakfast meetings, summer receptions and Christmas parties.
