Description
Littlehampton Museum was founded in 1928 and has lived at various locations. It is now housed in the grand historic Manor House which once belonged to the Duke of Norfolk in Littlehampton town centre. The building dates from the early 19th Century and has always been a focal point for the town. The museum shop sells books on local history, art prints, commemorative giftware, Roman replica products and scenic postcards of local views. The museum has a strong education and outreach programme and enjoys a close relationship with the Littlehampton Local History Society and the surrrounding community.
Collections description
The collection includes a wealth of archaeological material from the surrounding area including Angmering Roman Villa, the Climping coin hoard and features Bronze and Iron Age exhibits. We also have an impressive fine art collection featuring work by A. Plant, Leslie Wilcox and Henry Nibbs. Our focus on the social history of the town is reflected in the galleries where you can view some of our maritime collection and items which tell the story of the town from the Victorian era. Visitors may view our stored collections including our vast photographic archive of the local area by prior arrangement.
