Description
Wakefield has a wonderful art collection displayed in a beautiful 1880s house and an enticing sculpture garden. The Gallery has a popular programme of temporary exhibitions and family activities.
Work has started on constructing The Hepworth Wakefield an exciting and vibrant new art gallery that is due to open early in 2010. Designed by the internationally acclaimed architect David Chipperfield, The Hepworth Wakefield will feature a unique collection of original plaster sculptures by Wakefield-born Barbara Hepworth as well as creating a new home for Wakefield Art Gallery's major collections of fine and contemporary art.
Collections description
The internationally recognised fine and decorative art collections date from 16th to 21st centuries. The Gallery has outstanding work by Barbara Hepworth, Henry Moore and other leading British artists. The Gott collection contains many artists' views of Yorkshire and beyond.
