The Museum has been awarded £47,500 from the Heritage Lottery Fund to put together the exhibition which will cover music from the 1940s to the present day. Items from the public can be either loaned or donated for the exhibition.
So if you saw Led Zeppelin perform at the Mayfair, or if you were a regular of the Newcastle punk scene, then staff at Newcastle’s Discovery Museum want to hear from you.
“The exhibition will cover all types of popular music, from jazz to rock, and we would love to hear from anyone who has any memorabilia,” said Kylea Little, Keeper of History. “It could be photos, programmes or even clothing – if you have anything that you think represents the region’s music scene, past or present, then we’d love to hear from you.”
As well as celebrating the bands and musicians, which have come from the region in the past, the exhibition will take a look at some of today’s up and coming regional talent.
“The North East has a lot to be proud of in terms of its bands, venues and fans,” added Kylea. “We want to celebrate all of these aspects and we’re delighted to have received funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund to help us put this exhibition together.”
