Description
West Stow is the site of an Anglo-Saxon settlement occupied 420 – 650AD. Today there is a unique reconstructed Anglo-Saxon Village built on the original settlement site, giving visitors the opportunity to touch and experience Anglo-Saxon houses as we imagine them to have been. Visitors can also see the archaeological finds from the site on display in a specially built Anglo-Saxon Centre. Schools and other groups are welcome provided they are booked in advance.
Collections description
The Anglo-Saxon Centre contains an extensive collection of early Anglo-Saxon finds from West Stow settlement and cemetery, along with finds from more recently excavated local cemeteries of the same period. A dispaly of 5-7th Century fashion forms the centre piece of the museum. Grave goods, pottery, bone combs, tools and weaponry also feature.
