Damaged Drakelow Urn Returns To Anglesey Abbey

Anglesey Abbey this week welcomes the return of the Drakelow urn, which has spent the last year being carefully restored to its former glory.
Despite being made of lead, the urn was substantially damaged after a tree fell on it and the Roman plinth it sat on.
Specialist conservators revealed the most damage was to the neck of the urn and it consequently had to be softened then straightened. Minor dents were also fixed.
The urn now resides in its former place overlooking Quarry Pool as intended by Lord Fairhaven, who bought it to Anglesey Abbey from Drakelow Hall, Derbyshire, in 1934.
