A new interactive children's museum crammed with fun, educational resources for kids, parents and teachers opens its doors to the public on Saturday June 28.

Aptly titled Discover, the museum in Stratford, East London is the first undertaking of its kind in the UK and features a range of exhibits and activities aimed at encouraging children aged between 2 and 7 to discover new words, ideas and stories .

Developed in partnership with local children, parents and teachers, the museum is designed to help young children learn and gain confidence in the areas of literacy, language, communication and creativity.

"It is very important to give children time and space to use their imagination," said Discover Patron and poet Benjamin Zephaniah. "My work brings me into contact with children from many different backgrounds and I can see that discover offers real benefits".

Children lucky enough to enter the new museum will be treated to a story trail that takes them on a journey littered with sounds, lights and voices. Boarding a Lollilopter, they will venture across a Sparkly River on a Trip-Trap Bridge and then by wriggling through a Secret Cave they will ultimately emerge atop a Look Out.

Along the way they will broaden their learning experience by listening to stories from around the world, joining in a pretend picnic, making puppets, dressing up and writing postcards, poems and stories.

They will then be invited to tell the stories they have made to Hootah - the museum's resident baby space monster.

It's a dynamic environment designed to also help adults gain confidence and develop life skills through the shared learning experience of hands on activity, creative workshops, play, performance and story making.

David Kingsley, Chair of the new museum's Board of Trustees said, "Discover is set to become an invaluable resource for the children and people of East London.".

The museum has taken over 5 years and £6million to develop and on its opening day all visitors will be treated to free entry. There will also be a range of special activities including craft workshops, world food stalls and music as well as street performers in Stratford town.

The museum will be open to families, schools and other group visitors from June 28, 10am to 5pm every day, except Monday during school terms.
