Accommodation comprising double bedroom, bathroom and kitchen available in Liverpool. Comes complete with 1950s interior and 7,000 visitors a year.

The National Trust is seeking a new live-in custodian for one of its most popular properties in Liverpool, Mendips, the childhood home of John Lennon.

Lennon lived at Mendips with his Aunt Mimi and Uncle George between the ages of 5 and 23 and is said to have composed some of the Beatles’ early songs there with Paul McCartney.

A modest semi on Menlove Avenue in the suburb of Woolton, the house was bought and donated to the National Trust by John’s wife, Yoko Ono Lennon, in 2002.

Following a restoration that returned it to how it would have looked in the 1950s, Mendips was opened to the public in March last year.

"The Trust is looking for someone who can bring the qualities of interpretation, subject knowledge and customer care that the job demands," said the Trust’s Liverpool Properties Manager, Simon Osborne.

"He or she will be an excellent communicator and be able to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of the Lennon family during the period Mendips was in its ownership. Emphasis is very much on an ability to help with the 'living interpretation' of the house."

The Custodian is expected to 'live-in', with accommodation comprising a double bedroom, bathroom and kitchen, and be on hand throughout the season (March – October) to welcome visitors and answer any questions.

Mendips attracted more than 7,000 visitors during its first season in 2003 as part of a combined tour to 20, Forthlin Road, the former home of the McCartney family.

"We are very much looking forward to the coming season, building on last year’s tremendous success of Mendips," added Simon Osborne. "Thanks must go to our outgoing Custodian, Matthew Whitfield, who has done a superb job, and has ensured that visits to Mendips have been a very enjoyable experience."

The closing date for applications is January 26 and interviews will be held on February 2, ahead of the opening of the new season on March 27.
