DRAGON HALL IN NORWICH HAILED A SUCCESS AFTER RENOVATION

The renovated Dragon Hall was re-opened on 5 April 2006, and has already had a tremendous amount of visitors including many celebrities.

Since the Grade 1 listed medieval trading hall near the centre of Norwich, was re-opened, staff say it has attracted tourists and locals alike.

Built in 1430, the £1.8million invested in the building sought mainly to make the most of its beautiful features, such as the 15th century timber arches. Money also went into creating a modern glass gallery and a new wing.

The famous hall has caught the attention of author Bill Bryson, who said, “It is a joy to see…such a fantastic building, so sensitively restored and made available for public enjoyment,” He added that those who worked tirelessly to get the Hall open and to such a great standard “must be very proud – and very exhausted!”

Actor and writer Stephen Fry also offered his “wholehearted support”, to the continuing success of the Hall and the comedian and broadcaster Michael Palin wished the project “every success”. Only Fools and Horses actor, Roger Lloyd Pack, added, “I look forward to visiting Dragon Hall and exploring the building and its new visitor facilities."

The Dragon Hall restoration project took nine months to complete and is the work of 20 years of planning. It now occupies a central position in Norwich's ever expanding tourism offer.

Local MP Ian Gibson agreed, “Dragon Hall will provide an important boost to tourism in Norwich, Norfolk and indeed the whole Eastern region”.
