The gallery is free to look around, though the outside of the building is also remarkable, as it is the subject of Rory Macbeth’s newest artwork. Rory has painted the entire novel ‘Utopia’ by Sir Thomas More on the outside of the gallery.
Kaavous Clayton, founder of ‘Off’ said the new gallery is exciting because of “its variety and quality of work" whilst the modern art it houses is “handmade and accessible”.
The reason for the name ‘Off’, Clayton explained, is threefold: “Firstly the old electricity board is off, secondly none of the art involves electricity so it is off, and thirdly it is off-site from Outpost.”
Though it is difficult to pin down a similar relationship between the artworks, Clayton said the common theme is “everything is touched and created by human hand”.
‘Off’ is situated just off King Street and is open 10am to 5pm Monday to Saturday until 19th August. Admission is free.
