Schools in Britain and abroad have been invited to take part in a groundbreaking e-learning project.
52 Views, 52 Schools has been developed with Compton Verney Art Museum and ties in with a forthcoming exhibition of landscapes at the Warwickshire gallery.
Opulence and Anxiety: Landscape Paintings from the Royal Academy of Arts features 52 landscapes by British artists. Interested schools can register on Compton Verney’s website and choose a scene nearest to them in order to take part in the project.
They are encouraged to plan a visit to the location and link up areas of the curriculum in their project, including geography, history, art and english. |

The results can then be uploaded onto Compton Verney’s special microsite where each school will have their own page, which can then be viewed by other schools around the UK and abroad to stimulate discussion and new ideas.
"We think this is a great idea," said Anra Kennedy, head of learning at the 24 Hour Museum. "We've followed its development closely and were delighted to be able to advise the team on the use of web 2.0 technologies in an e-learning context."
Although most of the paintings depict locations in the UK, some are further afield. In fact one of the first schools to express an interest in the project is based next to the Grand Canyon, depicted by British artist David Hockney in the exhibition.
The project runs until June 10 2007 but organisers are keen for schools to upload their work as soon as possible so they have a chance to be included in an exhibition planned to run alongside the Opulence and Anxiety show, which opens at Compton Verney on March 24 2007. |

Opulence and Anxiety gathers highlights from the Royal Academy’s British Landscapes Collection by Royal Academians from the 18th century to the present day.
It forms a comprehensive survey of landscape painting in Britain and includes artists like JMW Turner, Constable, Gainsborough, Samuel Palmer, John Nash, Sir Kyffin Williams, David Hockney and Barbara Rae.
"Don't miss this opportunity to get involved with what we hope will be an interesting opportunity to combine artwork, literacy and technology, in an international context," said Anra Kennedy of the 24 Hour Museum.
To get involved in the 52 Views, 52 Schools project follow the instructions on the Compton Verney website. |
