NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR GUARDIAN FAMILY FRIENDLY MUSEUMS AWARD

The award is in its fourth year and receives the most nominations of any museum award in the UK

Museums are set to battle it out to find out which offers the most for families, with the launch of 2007’s Guardian Family Friendly Museum Award.

Nominations are now open for this year’s award, which is organised by The Guardian newspaper in conjunction with Kids in Museums, a charity aiming to encourage and guide UK museums and galleries to improve the experience of visiting families.

Kids in Museums was founded in 2003 after Guardian writer Dea Birkett’s young son was thrown out of the Royal Academy for being too noisy.

The Guardian Family Friendly Museum Award is now in its fourth year and previous winners are Killhope North of England Lead Mining Museum, Pitt Rivers Museum and Oxford Museum of Natural History (joint winners) and Falmouth Art Gallery.

It attracts more nominations than any other museum award in the UK and anyone can nominate the museum or gallery they think offers the best all-round family experience – full details of how to nominate are on the Kids in Museums website.
