Filmmakers are looking for extras for an alternative Western being made at an arts centre in Cambridge.
FEATURE, created by artist and filmmaker Shezad Dawood, is described as a ‘zombie western transposed to the English countryside’ and is being filmed in and around Wysing Arts Centre.
Public auditions will take place on September 15 and 16 between 2 and 5pm where local residents and visitors are encouraged to dress up, bring a picnic and audition for a part in the film.
The main filming days themselves are planned for September 22-23 and September 29-30.
Scenes are to include re-enactments of Custer’s last stand with zombie cowboys led by Billy the Krishna, staged gunfights, barroom brawls, burlesque dancers and sets featuring mineshafts, each bringing a young Asian perspective to challenge the stereotypes of the Wild West.
“This project comes under the Arts Council’s Taking Part Agenda, which sets out to offer interesting ways for everyone, specially people who do not often visit art galleries, to access contemporary art,” explained director Donna Lynas.
“It shows that contemporary art need not be restricted to the usual gallery setting but that it can be outdoors and it can be fun.”
