The judges for The Art Fund Prize for museums and galleries 2008 have been announced.

Writer and broadcaster Sue MacGregor CBE will chair a panel of leading figures from the arts, culture, academia and the media. Together they will select the best museums and galleries to compete for the UK’s single largest arts prize.

Along with MacGregor, the judges will be:

  • Keith Khan, Head of Culture for the 2012 Olympic Games

  • Diane Lees, Director of the V&A Museum of Childhood
  • Christopher Lloyd CVO, former Surveyor of the Queen’s Pictures
  • Dr Mark Miodownik, Head of Material Research Group at King’s College London
  • Maggie Semple OBE, Chief Executive of The Experience Corps Ltd
  • Emma Soames, Editor of Saga Magazine

The £100,000 Art Fund Prize for museums and galleries was formerly known as the Gulbenkian Museum Prize and aims to recognise and stimulate originality and excellence in museums and galleries. The 2007 prize was won by Pallant House Gallery in Chichester, West Sussex.

The deadline for nominations is November 2 2007: the judges will announce a long list of ten venues on February 1 2008 before a short list of four is picked in April 2008 and a final winner selected on May 22.
