Sir John Soane’s Museum in London has launched a Young Architects’ Club, and is looking for children aged between seven and 13 to become its inaugural members.
The monthly club will have its first meeting at the Lincoln’s Inn Fields museum on November 3 2007. Club activities will explore the art, design and science aspects of architecture with fun experiments and hands-on creative sessions.
It aims to inspire a new generation of potential architects and enable the museum to reach out to a new audience, and is part of a raft of new educational activities for both children and adults that will be made possible by the museum’s imminent expansion into the restored Number 14 Lincoln’s Inn Fields.
“Above all we want the Young Architects’ Club to be fun,” said Museum Education Manager Bethany Kingston. “Everyone who comes along will have the chance to get involved with a wide range of activities from exploring the local landscape to creating and decorating their own buildings.”
