It’s the seventh international event devoted to moving image art and animation, with the theme this year, Possible Worlds, taking in science fiction, imagined cities, alien interventions and fantastic contraptions.
This year’s festival is also billed as the biggest yet, with hundreds of screenings, talks and panel discussions to be held at Cinema City, Norwich Arts Centre and other venues, plus installation work and live performance.
From the fractured, rotoscoped world of legendary experimental filmmaker Robert Breer (New York) and the effervescent, celebratory explosions of colour of Jeff Scher’s work to the dreamlike and often disturbing interiors created by Naoyuki Tsuji, this year’s featured artists all present imaginative and emotional environments.
There will also be installation work from photographer and video artist Axel Antas, filmmaker Yuiko Matsuyama, gaming artist collective Igloo and a new commission by sculptor CJ Mahoney.
Realtime digital film pioneers Semiconductor are on the bill, too, alongside evening performances by the likes of the ZX Spectrum Orchestra.
