From May 2 to 5, Show Scotland 2008 will greet visitors to venues with events like late night openings, fun family activities and live arts performances. Show Scotland, co-ordinated by Museums Galleries Scotland, is an annual weekend of creative events in unusual venues.
To mark the opening day of the Bank Holiday programme, Bafta-winning actress Daniela Nardini visited the Scottish Mining Museum to show her support.
At the museum, she met the St David's Brass Band, rehearsing for the museum's Deeply Scottish Folk Night on the evening of Friday May 2, which will be a fantastic evening of music with a coal-community theme, all set in the spectacular surroundings of the Lady Victoria Colliery.
"I am delighted to support Show Scotland 2008 as I think museums and galleries bring so much pleasure to people's lives, young or old," said Daniela.
"This big events weekend is such a great idea, as with so many great events happening there is something to suit all tastes and some make for a really great family day out."
Some of the events going on this year include a live gig at GoMA (Gallery of Modern Art, Glasgow), reality TV inspired events The Art Factor and Art Idol at Aberdeen Art Gallery, Victorian fun in Stromness, and Scottish Opera giving a one-off performance at the Museum of Transport, Glasgow.
"Although only in its third year now, the big events weekend has already become a highlight in Scotland's cultural calendar," commented Joanne Orr, CEO of the Scottish Museums Council. "It's fantastic to see Show Scotland events taking place all across the country showcasing Scotland's unique heritage and cultural wealth in new and imaginative ways."
