Lincolnshire Libraries are encouraging people to ‘get inventive’ with exciting family events experimenting with science in a fun way. All sorts of activities are planned for Saturday May 24 at the Ermine Library and Saturday May 31 at Lincoln Central Library.

‘Meet the Inventors’ will include library officers dressed up as various historical figures including Isaac Newton, a Viking Fen skater and a Roman from Ermine Street, the Roman road which runs through Lincoln.

Each will be giving light-hearted talks about ideas and innovation from the period they represent. The workshop is based upon the ‘Innovation’ theme of Museums and Galleries Month.

The Museum of Lincolnshire life is partnering with the libraries to run the events

“We want to offer children and families the chance to have great practical experiences and a lot of fun while learning about science and history. The event is designed to show people that libraries and museums are really exciting places with lots to offer everyone,” says Jennifer Martin, one of the organisers.

Experiments with light, colour and physical forces are on the agenda. Visitors can also try making kaleidoscopes, wheeled toys and shadow puppets; all hands-on activities designed for children aged 7 years old and above. Adults can release their inner-child and get involved too, as there will be plenty going on.

Museum trails are also available and historic artefacts from the Museum of Lincolnshire Life will on display. There will be a selection of science books for visitors to look at and those who are inspired can borrow books to recreate their own science experiments at home.

Both events run from 10.30 am until 12 noon and are completely free - to book a place contact the Library Customer Services on 01522 782010.
