MANCHESTER MUSEUM OF TRANSPORT IN CALL TO GATHER MEMORIES

Are these your old work colleagues? Manchester Corporation Transport staff pose for the camera.

Staff at Manchester Museum of Transport are keen to get help from anyone who used to work on Manchester's buses in the past.

“We’ve been given thousands of photos over the years," said Museum Chairman, Dennis Talbot. "They vary from garage openings to social events. The problem is, we haven’t got any idea who most of the people in the photos are, as no-one wrote any names on the back – so can you help us identify them?"

The museum has an extensive collection of vehicles, archives and pictures, but it doesn't have anecdotes and histories to match the artefacts in the collection. If steps aren't taken soon, the memories of those who once drove the buses, collected the fares and serviced the engines will be forgotten, and a vital link with the past will be gone.

The museum's answer to this is a special free one-day reminiscence event called Busman's Holiday on Saturday June 28 between 10am and 5pm. To jog the mind, there'll be old and new buses on display, a tea room to oil the wheels of memory, and lots of people on hand to chat to.

Museum staff are happy to stress they are also keen to see any more photos and mementos that transport ex-employees would like to bring in.
