Locals and tourists will be exploring Norwich’s eclectic mix of hidden heritage gems next month as Heritage Open Days once again sweeps across the city.
Booking has opened for the national week of special events and openings at historic properties, galleries and museums, which runs from September 11-14 2008. In Norwich a wide ranging programme of events offers free public access to places that are normally off limits or charge entry fees.
For 2008 there are over 200 free heritage and cultural events, happening in the city – all of it co-ordinated by Norwich Heritage Economic and Regeneration Trust (HEART).
New this year will be a tour, talk and meal at the Ihsan Mosque, rides on the Discover Norwich Road Train, tours of 14th century Curat House (now Fatface) and much more.
“This year’s programme is another great showcase of Norwich’s heritage,” said Michael Loveday, Chief Executive of HEART. “We’ve listened to feedback from previous years and have a series of evening events which will be especially popular with people who work during the day.”
HODs offers free but ticketed events, drop-in events, and shop and pub window displays. Members of the public will be able to climb the tower at City Hall, or visit Norwich’s 900 year-old Castle. Elswhere they will be able to discover Norwich’s social history at the Bridewell Museum and explore its vaulted undercrofts.
